Christmas in the classroom

Experience the Christmas story together.

New: Christmas in the classroom!

Meet 'Christmas in the Classroom'; an accessible and interactive Christmas program. This project brings Christmas to life and allows students to discover the value of the Christmas story for themselves. Read the contemporary story 'Winter Break' together and let the children get to work with interactive Christmas-related activities. Each child has their own workbook with games, puzzles, and fun facts about Christmas traditions and the Bible story of the birth of Jesus. Christmas in the Classroom is suitable for any school that wants to focus on the Christmas story in grades 5 and 6 (the Netherlands) or grades 3 and 4 (Flanders).

The project includes:

  • Introductory lesson handout with instructions and ideas
  • Worksheet for the introductory lesson
  • Reading/activity book for every student ('Winter Break')
  • look at it preview copy

The story Winter Break was very cleverly written: the Christmas story was told from the children's perspective (football training, diversity in the story). This combination was really excellent!

Please keep making material that can also be used in a public school. Very beautiful material.

The games and coloring exercise (decorating Christmas baubles) were particularly well-received. The story was also perceived as very fun and exciting.

Activity Book 'Winter Break'

The booklet 'Winterstop' is a so-called flip book. From one side, you dive with children into the contemporary Christmas story, written by Corien Oranje. In this frame narrative, you follow Sven and Amir, who end up in a church on their way from the football field and experience the biblical Christmas story there in an original way.

The other side is an activity book containing various puzzles, fun facts, creative assignments, and games. In this way, children discover the Christmas story in a playful manner, tailored to their learning preferences.

Frequently asked questions about Christmas in the classroom

  • Is there a maximum number per school?

No, we assume that teachers do not request more booklets than they need for the children in group 5/6.

  • Is the book really suitable for non-Christian schools/students?

Yes, we investigated that through a pilot. The non-Christian teachers and students were also enthusiastic: it is a very accessible introduction to the Christmas story, where Christian and non-Christian children can engage in conversation with each other in a relaxed manner.

  • Who is Christmas in the Classroom for?

Christmas in the Classroom is suitable for any school that wishes to focus on the Christmas story in groups 5 and 6 (the Netherlands) or the 3rd and 4th grades (Flanders). The material has been developed based on a vision of children's theology, centering on children conducting their own explorations. Through open questions and mutual discussions, they discover for themselves what a story has to say. This makes the material suitable for children from diverse backgrounds.

  • Why Christmas in the classroom?

More and more children are growing up without knowledge of the Bible stories. As the NBG, we believe that the Bible changes people and is a valuable resource for your life. That is why we want to give every child the opportunity to discover the Bible for themselves and to hear about God's message of love. Discover more about reading the Bible with children here .
