This is our mission

The Dutch-Flemish Bible Society has been bringing the Bible closer for over 200 years. We want people at home and abroad to have access to the Bible. For in the Bible we hear God's message of love for the world, which moves us and illuminates our path.

Children get started with Bible Basics

In the Netherlands and Flanders

Our desire is that every person can discover, read, and embrace the Bible as a source for his or her life.

For the Netherlands and Flanders, for example, we are working on various Bible translations, debijbel.nl , and the Mijn Bijbel app . We also offer Biblical podcasts and reading plans.

In addition, thousands of children use our children's worship method Bijbel Basics and books such as the Samenleesbijbel or the Prentenbijbel. We also inspire many parents through the Kind&Bijbel platform . In this way, new generations also experience the richness of the Bible.

Worldwide

We also bring the Bible closer to the world. If people cannot read the Bible in the language of their heart, we work with local translators on a translation.

We also want to ensure that the Bible is accessible to people. Therefore, we provide free Bibles or inexpensive editions, or we contribute to an audio version, for example.

And we develop children's products together with other Bible societies , because we want every child to have the opportunity to get acquainted with the Bible. For we believe that the Bible is for everyone.

Our vision

Our vision is that every person can discover, read, and embrace the Bible as a source for his or her life. We aim to achieve this with two main objectives:

The Bible open

We want everyone who is open to it to be able to discover, read, and embrace the Bible. Whether that is for the first time, daily, or in a new way. To this end, we look at what the need is: a translation that was not yet available in a particular language, a new reading plan, or an audio version. Because the Bible is for everyone.

Every child

Every child has the opportunity to discover, read, and embrace the Bible at home, through school, or through church before the age of fifteen. In the Netherlands and Flanders, for example, through our children's worship method Bijbel Basics ; worldwide through the various versions of the Samenleesbijbel or through the Kind&Bijbel platform.

The Bible for everyone

We have developed five core values that we place at the center of everything we do.

  • We work out of love for the Bible.
  • As colleagues, we work diligently, driven, and full of enthusiasm on the mission.
  • We want to pass on the Biblical messages to people in a way that meets their needs.
  • We want to work together with all types of churches in the Netherlands and Flanders.
  • In our work, we are committed to a livable earth.
