NBG: podcast, Family Bibles and devotionals for migrant churches

What is the difference between joy and happiness? How spontaneous can a church service be? These are the topics discussed in the latest ‘Faith across borders’-podcast from the Bible Society for the Netherlands and Flanders (BSNF, in Dutch: NBG). NBG is expanding the Family Bible project to migrant churches throughout the Netherlands. Furthermore, NBG recently published three devotionals.

‘The Bible transcends boundaries of language and culture,’ says Samuel Ekpo, NBG’s relationship manager for migrant and international churches and host of the Faith Across Borders podcast. ‘I have a conversation with pastors from different cultural backgrounds about how they interpret and practice Bible passages. It’s so enriching to discover each other’s different perspectives on a Bible story or passage. That’s what we share in this podcast.’

In the latest episode, Ekpo speaks to pastor Shirene Augustine Straker, Holy Work Ministry, and pastor Paulus Schellevis, ICF Dordrecht. From Curaçao and Surinamese church contexts to Dutch Reformed traditions and intercultural communities in the Netherlands, they reflect on how worship can be both deeply personal and beautifully diverse. Thus far, three episodes of Faith Across Borders are available, on Spotify and other podcast platforms.

Family Bible-project nation-wide

What do Almere, Arnhem, Capelle a/d IJssel, The Hague, Den Helder, Dordrecht, Eemsdelta, Leeuwarden, Rotterdam and Tilburg have in common? A Family Bible project is set to launch in all these towns, following a successful pilot in 15 churches in Amsterdam. This project helps to improve knowledge of the Bible and strengthens family bonds. NBG provides the Family Bibles to migrant and international churches taking part. Is your church interested? If so, please contact project leader Elias Agyemang, , phone 06-14360733.

Devotionals for multicultural settings

‘The Body of Christ, the Church, unites people from all nations and cultures. But sometimes it’s difficult to connect with people who are very different from yourself. That’s what the devotional Faith and Culture, recently published by NBG, is about,’ says Samuel Ekpo. It contains thirty reflections written by him on being connected in a multicultural setting. Two other devotional books are Living the Word and Hope for Every Season. Available for € 4,95
